Building the Tasman


The strongback -  upon which the canoe will take shape
The molds are cut, shaped, labeled and ready to install
The molds are positioned plumb and square on the strongback
A kettle and some PVC pipe and the steam box is up and running. The inner and outer stem will be comprised of 6 laminations
The steamed stem is left to cool on the mold
The accent plank is carefully placed and the process begins!
Almost ready to start filling in the bottom
With half of the bottom filled in it's time to cut the center line
Closing in the final planks
The hull is fared and ready to come off the mold
